Since 2004, Hot Cakes, usually open for just breakfast and lunch, has opened its doors one night each year to lend their aprons to LUPEC members and supporters who wait and bus tables."We have entire families who look forward all year to sitting down to breakfast with us," says Allison Gleichman, committee chair for the event. "We think Breakfast for Boobs is the perfect way to keep breast cancer awareness and fundraising top of mind." With the exception of the kitchen crew - it's all professionals working the griddle - the wait staff is entirely volunteer.
Hot Cakes pares down its regular menu for the benefit, offering eight breakfast plates, including smoked salmon eggs Benedict - aptly named the "Pink Benny" - and donates 100 percent of all gratuities and 70 percent of all sales to breast cancer organizations.
