Cold Comfort would be located inside the mostly vacant Colorado Lace building at 200 East Seventh Avenue, at the corner of Sherman Street, just a block from a restaurant row that includes Mizuna, Bones, Benny's, Lala's, Govnr's Park and Luca D'Italia.
"We are looking for residents from the area who are supportive of our vision for a craft beer/food tavern to attend this meeting to help us gain support from CHUN," says Robert Giaquinta, one of four people listed on Cold Comfort's liquor license application. "Cold Comfort will be a positive addition to the community, revitalizing an unoccupied building and providing a comfortable neighborhood gathering place."
Giaquinta is hoping that people who live between Second and Twelfth avenues and Washington and Bannock streets will show up to voice their opinions.
Although Giaquinta has been living in New Jersey, he earned a master's degree from the University of Colorado. He also has family and business partners in the Denver and Boulder area and is in the midst of relocating back to Denver.
A homebrewer since 1990, Giaquinta doesn't plan to make his own beer at Cold Comfort. Instead, he wants to be part of the craft beer bar renaissance that has been taking place in Denver over the past year. By the end of this year, more than a dozen new places will have opened, adding more than 250 craft beer tap handles here.
"While Colorado has long been a brewing mecca, it seemed to me that for a long time the retail side of the business lagged behind the innovation of the breweries. Fortunately, I now see that Denver bars and taverns are devoting more taps to great beer, and that new establishments devoted to great beer and food are popping up," he says. "We look forward to being a part of this vibrant scene."The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Colorado Lace building. Cold Comfort's liquor license hearing is scheduled for December 22 at 1:30 p.m.
