With five metro locations, El Senor Sol is a homegrown chain -- but the outpost on West Colfax Avenue in Golden doesn't feel like a chain spot. Just up the road from the ubiquitous national chains at Denver West, El Senor Sol feels like the family-run establishment it is, with warm colors, lots of adobe, and delicious smells wafting from the kitchen.

It's busy on weekends, but small parties shouldn't have to wait too long for tables. Big groups of friends and families are also on hand, drinking margaritas and eating like kings. And even if you're a plant-based eater, there are plenty of options on this menu.

Pictured above is the pregnant burrito, which comes with either a cheese enchilada or a chile relleno (your choice) wrapped with beans inside of a tortilla, then smothered in green chile, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. A chile relleno was inside this one; the green chile was just hot enough to give the dish bite without making diners sweat, and the melted cheese, hot beans and savory relleno were a delicious combination.

Vegans can modify the fajitas to suit -- just ask for no sour cream or cheese; the guacamole is freshly made and will add enough creamy texture. Zucchini, onions, peppers, mushrooms and carrots are served grilled on a sizzling skillet; wrapped in a flour tortilla with a little guac, lettuce and pico de gallo, these veggies make for a fresh, healthy option. And you can order a double portion if you'd like to share.
