Taco and margarita favorite Emilio's on Colfax Avenue was closed in February by the Colorado Department of Revenue for nonpayment of taxes. Now it appears that the desirable corner space has a new tenant. Construction is underway, and a sign advertising Tycoon Ramen & Sushi Bar has been posted in the window.

In less than a year, Denver has gone from ramen desert to ramen-crazed, so the expectations are high for the quality of any new noodle joint. The other pressing concern is what has become of the vintage Super Chef sign that the owner of Emilio's rescued from the restaurant's previous incarnation as a Capitol Hill diner.

Tycoon will join Prohibition, Thai Monkey Club and Sassafras on a stretch of Colfax that still offers plenty character; one of Denver's best dive bars, the Nob Hill Inn, is a gritty reminder of the street's inglorious past — and rowdy present.
