Get a tasty lesson in history today as historians Robert and Kristen Autobee take over the Martin Room of the History Colorado Center at 1 p.m. today to talk about their book The Lost Restaurants of Denver. The two will cover the Denver dining scene from mining-camp chow to recently departed local favorites. In the center's Rendezvous Cafe, chef Samir Mohammad will be recreating the late Denver Dry Goods Tea Room's chicken à la king recipe, and the museum will also display a pop-up exhibit, "Food for Thought: Historic Menus From the History Colorado Collection," following the lecture while the Autobees sign copies of their books. As a part of the twelfth annual Indigenous Film and Arts Festival, the Anschutz Medical Campus will host a screening of Finding Gaston at 6 p.m. today.The film covers the culinary career of chef Gaston Acurio and his love of Peruvian food, and the evening includes a welcome by the Consulate General of Peru in Denver and a reception with Peruvian cuisine. Many of Denver’s best restaurants — including Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs, Beast + Bottle and the Squeaky Bean — will come together to celebrate A Taste for Life, an event that raises funds to support Project Angel Heart. Now in its fifteenth year, A Taste for Life supports Project Angel Heart’s efforts to deliver nutritious meals, free of charge, to men, women and children living with life-threatening illnesses in metro Denver. Brad Ritter, owner of Carmine's on Penn, hosts an evening of regional wines and food based on his recent travels in Italy. Ritter will select wines from the Adriatic Coast to feature a dinner that runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Dinner is $75 and seating is limited; call Carmine's at 303-777-6443.
Party for a Cure invites you to fight cancer while enjoying wine from some of Colorado’s finest vineyards and drinking margs courtesy of Colorado’s own Coyote Gold pre-mixed margaritas; there will also be free samples of Izzybelle Chocolate Sauce, and live music courtesy of Ugly Rumor. Baur's Restaurant and Listening Lounge will hold Bubbles & Bliss: An Extravagant Seafood Celebration, today from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The decadent evening will celebrate the opening day of Red King Crab season with Alaskan King Crab, caviar and a variety of oysters from both coasts; guests can also compare and contrast Maine Lobster and Canadian Hardshell Lobster.
