I got a call from chef Andrea Frizzi yesterday, thanking me for including his little 17th Avenue restaurant in my list of Denver's best Italian spots, and then letting me know that he'll soon add lunch service at Il Posto.

Oh, and not just any lunch. I checked out the menu for the service (scheduled to start on November 23), and I'm drooling already. This ain't exactly soups and sandwiches, folks. Rather, Frizzi has put together a board of very modern Italian grub that matches his excellent dinner menu.

We're talking sweet potato and vanilla soup with rosemary froth, stuffed calamari with anchovies and tomatoes, sweet potato gnocchi with acorn squash and walnut pesto, and risottos with squid ink and calamari or gala apples and stracchino cheese.

Frizzi and crew are also offering cheap booze ($6 glasses of wine and three-buck draft Peroni) to go with the grub, and a promise of would-be diners maybe actually being able to get a seat -- something that is not always a guarantee once dinner service starts up.

Honestly, it's been too long since I ate at Il Posto. This new lunch menu gives me the perfect excuse to go back.
