Last year at Sports Authority Field, Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, the second-ranked professional eater in the country, ate 14.25 pounds of burritos in just ten minutes to take home the title of World Burrito Eating Champion. Besides the championship, that monster feat earned Chestnut a new world burrito-eating record, beating out the previous mark of 11.81 pounds set in 2007 by Tim "Eater X" Janus.
Sure, you love burritos, but do you think you have what it takes to compete with that?
If the answer is yes, head to Illegal Pete's on South Broadway, which will host a preliminary competition for the Denver Outlaws World Burrito Eating Competition at 6 p.m. today. The winners of each burrito-eating heat will compete in a final contest at Illegal Pete's, and the winner of the finals will move on to compete against some of the top eaters in the world at the main event on Saturday, at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium. Just watching the action is fun, and if you want to take a bite of this contest, you can register here.
But first, consider that Chestnut ate the equivalent of over nine Illegal Pete's burritos in ten minutes. Good luck!
