As of late Thursday, there were just five reserved spots left at the tequila dinner being thrown by Sean Yontz at Mezcal. He's putting together this dinner (the menu for which I posted a few days ago) in order to properly celebrate the TV pilot that will be filming at Mezcal tonight. And because said TV pilot involves me actually cooking (or at least helping to cook) said dinner, he's also doing it in order to make things just a little bit more impossible for me. It has been years since I last picked up a knife in any sort of professional capacity. And because I have a suicidally self-destructive streak about six miles wide, I decided that the best time for me to see if I've still got any skills would be on a busy Friday night, in the middle of a special event dinner, while being filmed by three different cameras and hollered at by a television producer.
That aside, it looks like its going to be a killer dinner -- my help notwithstanding. And no matter what happens, it promises to be a highly amusing evening. For those of you interested in snagging a last minute spot at the tequila dinner, call the M. Inc. offices at 303-333-8282. The going price is just $45 and that'll cover you for five courses, plus tequila tastings, plus the honor of being able to say you were there when the career of the local, two-bit food scribbler either took off or finally crashed and burned.
And if you don't want to part with 45 of your hard-earned dollars? Well Mezcal will be open for regular service as well, so you can just wander in, have a few beers, maybe a couple of tacos, and watch me getting schooled by Mezcal's cooks.
I promise you won't be disappointed.
