The pair comes from Mexico City, and they cribbed the name Tenoch from Tenochtitlán, the Aztec name for that metropolis. And in their new shop, on Quebec and Iliff, they're serving up a variety of coffee and pastries that all come from their home country.
"All the coffees are organic from Mexico," Adriana explains, citing a medium roast from Veracruz and a dark roast culled from the southern part of the country. The siblings are also sourcing espresso, which they're pouring into drinks like the Lechero, which is similar to a latte but thicker, due to the pouring technique instead of a foam wand. They're also making cafe de olla, a blend of cinnamon, brown sugar and coffee brewed in a clay pot to impart flavor. And they'll offer a variety of flavored drinks, like a dulce de leche, sweet milk and eggnog.
In addition to beverages, Tenoch is offering Mexican pastries baked in house. Adriana lists empanadas stuffed with dulce de leche, tres leches cake and homemade flan. For savory treats, the spot will serve breakfast burritos in the morning and empanadas made with shrimp, shredded beef and Spanish tuna throughout the day.
And for those wanting something besides a hot drink, Adriana says the siblings will be making snow cones in myriad flavors, including one laced with spicy chiles.
