Chef Shellie Kark is teaching a two-part class at the Denver Public Library, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway, titled "Rooted: Heirloom Recipes as Family History." The first session is today, and will focus on converting word-of-mouth family recipes into actual formulas that anyone can follow; the followup session is September 23. The classes run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Level 4 Community Technology Center at the library, and the workshop fee of $15 includes two copies of a commemorative cookbook. Monday, September 9:

Frasca, 1738 Pearl Street in Boulder, is hosting its Monday night wine dinner this evening. The four-course meal costs $50, with additional charges for pairings; call 303-442-6966 for reservations.

Tuesday, September 10:

Bru Handbuilt Ales & Eats, 5290 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder, is hosting the first in a series of monthly beer dinners tonight at 6:30 p.m. Executive Chef/Brewmaster Ian Clark, along with chefs Josh Monopoli and Jason Brown, will highlight peaches; check the website to view the five-course menu. The restaurant will also be debuting Clark's Belgian Style Imperial Stout, an ale hand-built with bitter cocoa and roasted Colorado peaches. Tuesday, September 10 (continued):

The history of beer in Boulder continues to flow every Tuesday through Saturday through October, at the Boulder History Museum, 1206 Euclid Avenue. The exhibit covers the area's brewing history from the late 1800s to today. General-admission tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children; visit the website for more information.

Ace, 501 East 17th Avenue, hosts a table-tennis tournament from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday. Wednesday, September 11:

The final night of the Broadway Farmers' Market takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the South Broadway Christian Church, 23 Lincoln Street. The market features organic produce, flowers, Colorado goods and local live music in the street. Check the Facebook page for more details.

Thursday, September 12:

Civic Center Eats rolls on at Civic Center Park. The food-truck fest lands at the park at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays through September 26. The movable feast, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., features live music in addition to food and other vendors; check the website for the full schedule of both trucks and entertainment.

Chef Simon Purvis of EDGE Restaurant & Bar, 1111 14th Street, will host another summer grilling cooking class this evening. Tonight's presentation will focus on a vegetarian grill-out, with various mushrooms and a three-bean salad. The $40 class includes a cocktail, draft beer or glass of wine, and a spice rub to take home. Call the restaurant at 303-389-3343 to reserve a seat.

Lucky Pie Pizza and Tap House, 1610 16th Street, presents a special beer dinner paired with multiple ales from Avery Brewing this evening at 6 p.m. The dinner costs $65 per person and reservations are available by calling 303-825-1021, or emailing [email protected]. Friday, September 13 - Saturday, September 14:

Lowry Beer Garden will host its second annual Oktoberfest this month, bringing the lederhosen, the beer liters and the party back for three weekends in a row -- each of which will highlight a different Colorado brewery. (And anyone who wears a German dirndl or lederhosen gets their first beer free). This weekend's party runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m. today and tomorrow with live music (Oom-Pah bands: Austrian Connection, the Rhinelanders and Polkanauts) and a mini tap takeover by Prost Brewing, which will be pouring Altfränkisches Dunkel Bier, Prost Pils, WeiBbier and Marzen. (American Craft Beer Radio will be in the house today, broadcasting live from noon to 1 p.m.) Next weekend's featured brewery is Odell, followed by Left Hand on September 27-28.
