Candy, coffee and ice cream? Enstrom just opened its new location at 6770 West 52nd Avenue in Arvada -- a door down from its previous Arvada location. Turns out the Enstrom family, which has had four generations in Colorado's candy industry, owns the building, and when Stephanie's Candy moved out of the space, they decided it would be easier to renovate that place into the next Enstrom incarnation -- complete with an espresso bar.

Enstrom got its start almost a century ago, when then-seventeen-year-old Chester K. "Chet" Enstrom went to work in the ice cream factory at Barthel's Confectionery in Colorado Springs, working at a candy company across the street in his off-hours. In 1929, according to the company website, he and his bride, Vernie, packed up their Model T and drove the rut-filled roads to Grand Junction, where Chet and a partner, Harry Jones, launched the Jones-Enstrom Ice Cream Company. But Chet continued to make candy, and by 1960 his almond toffee was so popular that he launched Enstrom Candies.

The family-owned company continued to grow. Coffee was added to the mix when Enstrom opened its first year-round retail location in Cherry Creek in 1993.

The new Arvada location gives even more emphasis to coffee, which is roasted in Seattle by Caffe D' arte; there's also free wifi, indoor and outdoor seating and free parking.

The store is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday; it will be holding a grand opening party on Saturday, June 29, with giveaways, coffee and free samples -- including Enstrom World Famous Almond Toffee and Enstrom Premium Ice Cream.
