Another old favorite on the Denver dining scene — Andre's Confiserie Suise — will close on December 31, after 49 years. Until then, chef Bruno Gegenschatz will continue serving the cuisine of Europe, including daily specials (today's are beef goulash, polenta and Brussel sprouts, or croute au fromage, sliced tomatoes and salad). Fans of this quaint spot, a favorite with ladies who lunch, are already mourning the impending loss. But one readers sees this as a dark sign of what's in store for Cherry Creek. Says Greg:

I won't say it's the beginning of the end for what used to be a quaint village of mom and pop shops, restaurants and art galleries in Cherry Creek — because it's far too late for that. The powers that be are turning it into the "Rodeo Drive" of Colorado, and there is no stopping the millionaires and BILLIONAIRES like Anschutz & Sturm from doing what they want. Now $7900 is what it costs to rent a two-bedroom unit in the new apartments across from Safeway.
