While this spot at 3602 East Colfax Avenue has held several memorable joints -- the Bulldog (where our Drunk of the Week got gonged), and the Monroe Tavern (commemorated in our Colfax project, the first of our annual street profiles) -- the last words of the message are a salute to the bar's early incarnation as Mr. Von's Alamo.

That's the Denver bar that John Plessinger, who'd also had several saloons in the south suburbs, owned before he bought the legendary Nob Hill Inn at 420 East Colfax Avenue back in 1969.

Nob Hill is still going strong, and the space at 3602 East Colfax Avenue will soon rise again.

It's slated to re-open on Friday, March 5 as the Lost Lake Lounge. Matt LaBarge, co-owner of the popular South Broadway spots hi-dive and Sputnik, is turning the former Bulldog space into a lodge-style lounge complete with a wood-burning fireplace and a piano bar on Sundays and Mondays.

Neighbors are already raising a glass to toast this latest incarnation. Also no doubt saluting the new identity: the owners of the British Bulldog, at 2052 Stout, which had suffered through some identity confusion.

Every dog has his day.
