Bah, humbug!

Yesterday, servers at Simms Steakhouse found out that they'll have to work on Christmas — after already working on Thanksgiving, and knowing that they also have to work on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. "This came out of the blue," says one Simms server. "This is just beyond ridiculous for a multi-billion-dollar corporation to decide a few weeks before. Now people who have plans or trips are faced with working or losing their jobs."

And the Simms Steakhouse workers are not the only ones being Scrooged: Their colleagues at Morton's Steakhouse and Willie G's, which are also Landry's restaurants owned by billionaire Tilman Fertitta, just learned that they, too, will be working on Christmas. Here's the memo that was posted in the servers' area at Simms:

Attention All Staff
December 3rd, 2015

Due to the ever increasing requests of our guests, Simms Steakhouse will be open for Christmas this year. Our hours will be from 3:00-8:00pm, with our last reservation at 7:45pm. Happy Hour will not be offered, we will be serving our regular menu.

Instead of succumbing to just missing Christmas, plan another celebration with your family. Working on the holiday doesn't have to be a bad thing. With a little Christmas spirit and a great attitude, you can make the best of it. Not just for you, but for your co-workers and our guests!

Let's accessorize! Have a little fun with your uniform. If nothing else, it will give people something to talk about. There's no shortage of fun stuff you can find nowadays. A crazy Santa hat, jingle bell bracelets, blinking pins, Christmas ties and crazy Christmas socks, wear an ugly Christmas sweater, you name it!

So stay positive and remember that a little cheer goes a long way!
