The Digs: Sullivan's sits on a corner in LoDo surrounded by restaurants and lively crowds of tourists and locals, all seeking entertainment in the form of a meal, a live performance or perhaps a baseball game. On this particular Tuesday, we found ourselves downtown because of the latter. Sullivan's is a chain steakhouse, but without the pomp and circumstance of other upscale beeferies in the same vicinity. It's a space that feels very Chicago-like, with a relaxing atmosphere flanked in dark wood and large bar stools covered in black leather. In the evenings, live music plays in the lounge.
The Verdict: The bartender seemed slightly ambivalent to the fact that it was happy hour, but his lackadaisical attitude wasn't about to keep us from having a stiff drink. Manhattans in hand, we began to peruse the happy hour eats.The gnocchi, tiny potato pillows drenched in a creamy alfredo sauce with wilted spinach and crimini mushrooms, arrived first. A filling portion for the price, it was a dish that could easily satiate two, but it paired better with the happy hour wine than the subsequent martinis we had ordered. Up next was the wild fire shrimp -- popcorn shrimp, essentially -- with a small side of aioli. They were a bit soggy, but at least they weren't cold, which pretty much described our service for the duration of the evening. Service, while efficient, just seemed a little frosty.
