SmashCart, the mobile burger vendor that the Smashburger chain had rolled out in May, has rolled back into the garage.
"The vending cart that Smashburger used was a test," explains Jeremy Morgan, senior vice president of marketing and consumer insights. "While it allowed the company to draw in new customers and encourage trial, the company needed to get back to its focus of opening new brick-and-mortar stores in markets here and across the country. Smashburger will consider a vending re-launch in the future."
In fact, according to Stacie Lange, spokeswoman for Consumer Capital Partners, which owns Smashburger, the company is looking for a new spot on the 16th Street Mall right now; the original SmashCart location proved a little close to the Red Robin's Burger Works that recently opened at 1600 California Street.
In the meantime, anyone craving a Smashburger in downtown Denver can head right for one of those brick-and-mortar establishments: There's a Smashburger in the Tabor Center.
From its original store on South Colorado Boulevard, Smashburger has grown to more than 150 restaurants in 25 states nationwide, including one location in Kuwait; the company is on track to open sixty to eighty new stores this year.
