When it comes to berries, there's a reason the strawberry is a perennial favorite. The versatile fruit works well in pie, jam, shortcake, shakes, as an ice-cream topping or just juicily, deliciously raw. Glenwood Springs has been celebrating the strawberry for 113 years now with its annual Strawberry Days festival, which starts today and runs through Sunday, June 20.

There's a carnival for the kids, a beer garden, an artisan market, vendors of all types, live entertainment, an ice-cream social, a parade, a pie-eating contest and more strawberries than you can shake a stick at. Get details at www.strawberrydaysfestival.com.
