Anyone who comes into the brewery, which is located in the district, after 4 p.m. on First Friday can try a free sample of a beer that has been conditioned with a new or unusual ingredient in a cask (otherwise known as a firkin). Pints are also available for purchase for $3 before 6 p.m. and for $4 after that. the First Friday Art Walks run from 6 to 9 p.m.
Today's firkin will be a version of the brewery's renowned Agave Wheat infused with fresh raspberries. Previous firkins have included: Lucky U IPA with ghost peppers; 471 IPA with cinnamon sticks and dry hopped with millennium hops; and Christmas Cookie, the brewery's Christmas Ale aged with Christmas cookie spices.
Hops & Pie, which is located on Tennyson Street, has had a similar First Firkin Friday in its own art district for the past year and a half.
