The 5th Annual Celebrity Chili Cook-off is a hotly-contested battle that typically draws contestants from Westword (yours truly), the Denver Post, 5280, various TV stations, radio stations, blogs and other media-related outlets or organizations.
Celebrities who have confirmed include: 7News anchorman Mike Landess, former Post columnist Fred Brown, Channel 4's Jim Benneman, Denver Business Journal editor Neil Westergaard and former Wellington Webb spokesman Andrew Hudson.
And frankly, none of them will be able to handle the chili that I'm whipping up. Why? I'll give you a hint: It's called Medical Chili-Juana, and it's smokin'!
The cook-off (which I have lost two years in a row) begins at 6 p.m. and costs $20 at the doors. Guests can sample as many of the chili pots as they can handle and wash it all down at the cash bar. The Denver Press Club is located at 1330 Glenarm Place.
The Women's Bean project is a 21-year-old nonprofit that teaches women job readiness and life skills in order to help them "break the cycle of poverty and unemployment." The women learn by working for the project, which produces a line of chili and dip mixes, spice rubs and gift baskets that include everything from coffee to jelly beans.
