But now we've learned that the strike may not be the final nail in the Ding-Dong and Twinkie coffins, since a federal judge has since stepped in and urged Hostess Brands and Union strikers to agree to mediation in a last-ditch attempt to save the junkies from deprivation.
In the meantime, those of you who need your fix can find it at Elway's Cherry Creek and Elway's Downtown, both of which have pimped the Ding Dong on their dessert menus since day one. "Everybody loves the Ding-Dong -- just saying it brings a shit-eating grin to my face," quips Tyler Wiard, Elway's Cherry Creek executive chef (and a contestant on this season's Top Chef Seattle). "Elway's has had amazing success with our Ding-Dong ever since we opened eight years ago. It's so familiar and comforting, and it really brings back awesome childhood memories for a lot of people, including me."
But while the Ding-Dong at Elway's isn't going anywhere, there's no telling if Hostess will survive to make it through another day. If not, this could be its funeral.Follow @CafeWestword
