Repeal Day Celebration at the Cruise Room.
There was a dark time in America's history (further back than Election Day 2017, that is) when booze was illegal and folks were forced underground to enjoy their OId Fashioneds and other spirited concoctions. But Prohibition was repealed on December 5, 1933, making it legal once again to enjoy gin, bourbon and rum without fear of repercussions — other than a wicked hangover. The Cruise Room, open since that glorious day 84 years ago, and Green Russell, a newer addition to Denver's speakeasy scene, both celebrated last night with Prohibition-era cocktails, live jazz and period costumes. We hit the Cruise Room first and then Lindy-hopped on over to Green Russell to join in the fun. All photos by Ken Hamblin III.
