  • 3 Sons finally back in business

The new home of 3 Sons in Arvada. Here's one for the books: 3 Sons is back in business, and even beat the June 20 opening date promised last week on its web site. In fact, it's serving as of today in its new location at 14805 West 64th Avenue in Arvada.

  • No beach, but at least Arvada has Restaurant Blu and C-Level

Since last May, Chef Bruce David Mcginty has been running an interesting operation out in Arvada. Restaurant Blu and C-Level are attached restaurants, located in a waterfront building overlooking Hidden Lake. Restaurant Blu is more of a fine-dining place, while C-Level bills itself as 'Arvada's only waterfront sports bar and grill.' Manager Dylan Lampert told me that C-Level is "basically an upscale sports bar with a little Mexican food and a bunch of seafood. We are located over the water and

  • Today's Night & Day featured event: Shop, don't drop, in Olde Town Arvada

An old German tradition, the lagniappe (pronounced lawn-yahp) offers merchants an opportunity to show appreciation for their customers, both loyal and brand-new, by opening their doors for a snow-kissed evening stroll. In other words, it's a tradition tailor-made for the already cozy boutiques of Olde Town Arvada, where retailers host the annual Olde Town Arvada Lagniappe, a free, old-timey holiday-season kickoff complete with carriage rides, refreshments and special deals. Begin your lagniap

  • Arvada Grill is gone

The Arvada Grill at 5801 Olde Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada has closed its doors."Thank you to all who joined us!" is the only message offered on the restaurant's website, www.arvadagrill.com. And the website of the parent company, the Fortis Group at www.fortisdenver.com, no longer lists the Arvada Grill, which chef Alex Gurevich opened right at the end of 2007. His Limon is still going strong at 1618 East 17th Avenue, though, and Bisque, at 226 Union Boulevard, has improved with the addit

  • The Arvada Tavern is back in business

The building at 5707 Wadsworth Boulevard that houses the Arvada Tavern started out as a blacksmith shop, then got Arvada's first beer license after Prohibition, opening as the Dutch Inn in 1933, then turning into the Arvada Tavern. But by last year, the watering hole had gotten a little too down and dirty, and the owners closed it for a major, three-month renovation. The new-and-improved Arvada Tavern just reopened two weeks ago, and new general manager Bruce Reinoehl says that everything has b

  • Flier of the Week: Inactivists at the D-Note

Oh, sweet monster-movie goodness! I'm beginning to think you all are designing just for me (not that I mind). This week's fancy-pants flier (click on it for a bigger version) pays homage to the movie-monster icons of yesteryear with a sweet mashup on the classic Bride of Frankenstein to promote the Inactivists with Mourning Sickness and Little Dead Things tomorrow night at the D-Note in Arvada. What's really cool about this, besides the impeccable taste inherent in ganking such a classic image,

  • So long to the old 3 Sons

3 Sons has closed its original location at 2915 West 44th Avenue, in anticipation of a May move to 14805 West 64th Avenue in Arvada. Susan and Michael Scarafiotti bought the venerable old Italian joint in March 2004 -- which means they weren't responsible for the place back when Jason Sheehan first reviewed it, and quickly made much-needed improvements. "Our family recipes have been perfected over the years to produce tasteful and unforgettable Italian cuisine," they promise on their website.

Telling Stories has long been a blessing for those of us who like our high culture in low-impact form. The four-year-old program combines chamber works and literature readings in ways designed to appeal to the under-forty set. In other words, the troupe, founded by local classical musician and writer Jennie Dorris, a former Best of Denver winner, showcases its fusion of musical pieces and personal essays at bars and cafes that are better suited for micro brews and lattes than intermission cockt

Lori Midson Despite the half-dozen "For Lease" signs posted in the storefront windows in Old Town Arvada, at least one restaurant is actually moving in. • What are Denver's most haunted restaurant locations?

Peter Boyles is holding his annual haunted house event at Yak and Yeti, the Nepalese restaurant that took over the former home of the Cheshire Cat Brewpub and Restaurant, at 7803 Ralston Road in Arvada. (There's a second Yak and Yeti at 8665 Sheridan in Westminster.) The ghosts on Ralston Road predate the brewpub era, though; the building got its start as a horse farm back in 1863, local fans of the supernatural swear it's haunted by more than a century of spooks. You don't need to head

The breadery was doing heavy trade last Friday during a trail run, and while the board was limited (and the kitchen had run out of the French di
