How to describe the voice of Colorado-based Barron Christian, who has a small part in Imagine That, an Eddie Murphy movie shot partly in Denver that opens on Friday? It's a deep baritone delivered warmly and confidently -- and there's a cadence to his vowels that gives his sentences incredible richness. He did the voiceover for a Jaguar commercial in which the only words spoken are the name of the car and two short sentences: "I drive one. Don't you think it's time?"

Last week, Governor Bill Ritter signed a bill authorizing the creation -- re-creation, actually -- of the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media. Such an operation is desperately needed, as witnessed by the dearth of big-time productions that shoot in these parts. Indeed, Imagine That, an Eddie Murphy effort that's finally slated for release this Friday, is the most recent major-studio feature to film in Denver for a substantial amount of time -- and the crew left town in October 2007.

Turns out Denver has a much smaller role in Imagine That than we originally thought.
As you may recall, three weeks worth of filming for the Eddie Murphy flick took place right here in our Mile High home. And although you can still see a helicopter shot of the city and catch a glimpse of Melo talking to Allen Iverson, many of Denver's scenes were cut entirely, including the sequence in the Brown Palace Hotel's Palace Arms restaurant starring our friend Barron Christian.
