  • NPR's All Songs Considered weighs in on the best music of 2009

Last time we checked, there's still a good four months left until the end of the year. Regardless, that hasn't stopped Bob Boilen and company from NPR's All Songs Considered from weighing in on the best music of 2009 (so far). Actually, check that -- the results, which were posted on the show's blog last week, were evidently voted on by the listeners, who apparently really, really dig Animal Collective. Take a look at their picks after the jump and see if you agree. Did they get it right, or

  • Q&A with Natasha Kahn of Bat For Lashes

The panoramic songwriting of Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes has gained the attention of critics and peers alike and lead to her recurring opening gigs on the 2008 Radiohead tour. Drawing on her rich imagination for inspiration, Khan's songs tap into the language and imagery of collective myths, ancient and modern, to tell stories that remind us that our life experiences far from pedestrian if you know how to look at it from the proper perspective. We recently had a chance to chat with Khan at

  • Over the weekend: Bat for Lashes at the Bluebird Theater

Doug BeamBat For Lashes, Other Lives Bluebird Theater Saturday, August 22, 2009 Better Than: See bands with technical ability but no imagination. Openers Other Lives started out with a lush, orchestral, folk-inflected pop song that reminded me a bit of Arab Strap, without the bile and the Scottish accents. It would have been easy to write Other Lives off as yet another adherent to the Radiohead school of atmospheric music but something about the band's songs went beyond something so obvious.

  • Monolith Q&A: The Glitch Mob

The Glitch Mob started out as a Los Angeles-based DJ collective that pooled its collective talent to make a more collaborative music with expanded sonic possibilities. As individual artists, Ooah, edIT and Boreta have released solo albums of cutting edge electronic music but it is as a team that they have put out some of the most interesting remixes being done today. Those familiar with improvisational band Sound Tribe Sector 9 will hear an entirely new band through the ears of the Glitch
