  • Denver Realtors protest West Washington Park's anti-duplex plan

Yesterday, the Denver Board of Realtors made a last-ditch effort to protest a proposal to keep mega-duplexes out of West Washington Park. As we chronicled here last week, Councilman Chris Nevitt's rezoning plan to preserve the bungalow, single-family feel of one pocket of the city has exploded into a controversy about property rights and development throughout Denver's older neighborhoods. After watching similar proposals pass in West Highland, Sloan's Lake and South Park Hill, real estate pro

  • Release your kickstand and get ready to cruise

Tonight's Denver Cruisers ride will have special significance for Brad Evans, the zany leader of the cycling pack, and not just because riders will dress themselves and their cruisers in bubble wrap and duct tape. The event, which takes place rain or shine and will likely see a couple hundred happy-go-lucky enthusiasts, also commemorates the launching of Kickstand Magazine, which Evans says is the world's first cruiser-bike mag. The Roll Out party starts, as always, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ginn

  • Brad Evans's plan to make Denver the cruiser capital of the world

There's a new sheriff in town, one with a mean set of handlebars. We're not talking about a mustache. We're talking about his bicycle. The dude in question is Brad Evans, local realtor by day and two-wheeled merry prankster by night. In 2004, Evans founded Denver Cruisers, a pedal-powered party that hops from bar to bar on Wednesday nights all summer long. The boisterous events have always been all about bikes, booze and brouhaha, with Evans and his cohorts hitting the streets in glammed-up o

  • Today's featured event: The Denver Cruisers take to the streets

A couple of weeks ago, as my family drove through downtown Denver, we spotted an unusual sight: a tipsy gaggle of bicyclists coming down the street that made me smile and wave. These bikers wore no sleek paraphernalia made of super-wicking mystery fabrics, nor were they mohawked, pierced, lean and mean. They were regular folks like you and me, out for a leisurely evening ride, except for one thing: Their hair stuck out all over, pink and sequined and silly. Oh yes, I thought, of course. It was
