  • More Moovers & Shakers picks

By now, hopefully you've had a chance to peruse this year's Moovers & Shakers. A lot of great stuff released this year, yeah? Too much, in fact. There were more releases that moved us than we had space in the paper. Thank God for the web, eh? As promised, here's more Moovers and Shakers picks. By no means should any of the following albums be considered also-rans. Each of the releases listed after the jump had just as big an impact on us this year as the others. Oh, and this is the first ba

  • Undercover and underage at LIFEspot

Earlier this year, I made a commitment to broaden my horizons. I said I'd catch music in different genres and at different venues than I normally frequent. I didn't set any specific measurable goals to correspond with this resolution, but I think I've been fairly successful. For example, last month, I caught some bands at the fabled Herman's Hideaway for the first time. Last week, I enjoyed drinks (and the cacophony of the piano bar) on the patio at Charlie Brown's. And last Friday, I had my ina

  • Q&A with Kyle Evans of Breathe Carolina

Those Breathe Carolina boys sure are colorful. It started out as a simple phone interview for a feature commemorating Breathe Carolina's participation in this year's Warped Tour, which rolls into Invesco Field at Mile High on Sunday, August 9. But it turned into something considerably more unexpected when, during our conversation with BC's Kyle Evans, his partner in rhyme, David Schmitt, appeared, his face dripping with blood. What happened? Get the whole story in a sprawling Q&A on view after

  • Q&A with Brandon Whalen of My Body Sings Electric

CSIWhile the Warped Tour has grown up and is now it's fifteenth summer, most of the bands and fans are as young as ever. Unlike most of the poorly selling dinosaur exhibits posing as rock concerts traipsing across the country these days, the Warped Tour year after year gets more and more popular. Combining a well thought out blend of old favorites, like this year's headliners Bouncing Souls, Bad Religion, and NOFX, combined with up-and-comers like Innerpartysystem and Breathe Carolina, the Wa

Breathe Carolina Warped Tour Invesco Field at Mile High August 9, 2009 Fifteen years down the line, the Warped Tour, which took over the asphalt surrounding Invesco Field on Sunday, has a well-established formula: lots of bands (around seventy in Denver), most of them falling into the pop-punk or post-punk categories, on multiple stages (seven yesterday), for a reasonable price (around fifty bucks after service charges) made possible by the presence of more food and merchandise booths th

  • Breathe Carolina: Kid tested, mom approved

There's nothing like having the endorsement of mom -- or having her tell you in no uncertain terms that she's going to kick your ass if you let her or the 2,000 kids who are assembled to watch your band down by not, well, kicking ass. Such was the lot of David Schmitt last weekend, when his band, Breathe Carolina -- who latest effort, Hello Fascination, released today and already in the iTunes Top 20 -- stopped by Invesco Field on the Warped Tour for a hometown show. • Heavy Rotation, our top spins for the week of August 17, 2009

As music critics, the most common question we get asked (and ask each other, for that matter) is, "What are you listening to?" The pervasiveness of this query is precisely what inspired Heavy Rotation, our latest feature. For the benefit of those who happen to be curious, we've compiled a list of all the things we're listening to this week. Feel free to chime in with picks of your own after the jump.
