When I was in high school, I had a friend whose dad called all porn shops "the fuck book store." Mostly, though, he was referring to the joint next to the Bluebird Theatre, because he was very suspicious that we went to that venue so often -- although for seventeen-year-old, third-wave rude boys and ... Smiley's Laundromat has been hung out to dry, taking with it yet another (sketchy) Colfax institution. So what's next for this spot? I drove by Smiley's Laundromat last night and felt one of those annoying sighs cross my chest -- a chest pain caused by the sight of possible improvement to a place that I used to enjoy for its utter sketchiness. Smiley's is closed right now for "remodeling," its windows papered over. Could we be lo ... More >>

I would love to say there was another reason for my visiting Nature's Cure III on Colfax, but there just isn't. The shop isn't really known for much more than rock-bottom pricing on their buds, and there's often a line to get in -- so I figured I'd finally make a stop and see just how far $25 could ... More >>

Colfax Avenue has always been Denver's main thoroughfare. Created after the Rush to the Rockies of 1859, the Gateway Road flourished in the decades that followed as both a business district and a social hub, right up through the 1950s, when touristy motels lined both sides. But like Radiator Springs ... More >>

I've been eyeing the CCF sign on Colfax for years now. It's one of the most prominent MMJ signs on Colfax, while at the same time being relatively modest. Just three big letters on an old neon marquee. I always assumed the sign was probably the best part about the otherwise discount-looking shop.
Patricia Calhoun's item about a Denver City Council food fight over building a new Sunflower Market on Colfax sparked a strong take from one of our most regular commenters after the project was approved. Here's what he had to say.
Teal NippAt lunchtime on Saturday, I dragged a couple of friends east on Colfax, eager to sate my curiosity about Bourbon Grill, the walk-up window under a red awning that seems to always have an eclectic line of people waiting for an order.
Fourteen restaurants are participating in tonight's Tasty Colfax bash, which features five bands, a tap-dancing troupe and food from the latest addition to the neighborhood, Uber Sausage -- and Hooked on Colfax, Fat Sully's, Denver Biscuit Company, Annie's Cafe, Encore, Bastien's and others. ... It may be that the powers-that-be of Civic Center Park have Denver Big Air, which starts tomorrow, locked down tighter than a low-income high school, but that's not going to stop the determined winter sports enthusiast from seeing it for free. It is, after all, an enormous ramp in a public pa ... More >>
Man, being in a band is hard. Sometimes it's so hard that in order to eat, you need to stand on Colfax and Speer to get people into your show. That was apparently the reason why the bands decided to utilize the cardboard box to advertise their show this Saturday, or so we're assuming.
Channel 7 recently stopped by the 5300 block of East Colfax Avenue, to talk to Jill Warner and Erick Roorda, the owners of Mod Livin', about the neighborhood dispute that's gone "ballistic," as Roorda says, since they opened Deluxe Burger with restaurateur Dylan Moore, then launched the Littl ...
