Karl Christian Krumpholz is a historian of the most seamy, lurid thoroughfare in Denver: Colfax Avenue. His medium is his webcomic, 30 Miles of Crazy! where he trawls the street for stories of drunkenness, depravity, and insanity. Now he's rolled the archives of the comic into one handy paperback: t ... More >>
Colfax is notorious -- not just here in Denver, but across the nation. But while the longest continuous street in America has enjoyed a somewhat shady reputation in the past, today Colfax offers an incredible blending of cultures and some of Denver's most unusual culinary experiences. Colfax Avenue may be the longest street in America, but until Mu Brewery opened last weekend in Aurora, none of its 26 miles was graced with a craft brewery. The last beer-maker with a Colfax address was an outlet of the Florida-based Hops Grill & Brewery chain, but that company pulled out of Colora ... More >>
The members of Steele and Colfax are indebted to one of Denver's most unique stretches of road. Indeed, it only takes looking at the title of the quartet to get a sense of their local roots. The place where the band played their first rehearsals is right there in the name. The band started fusing vi ... More >>
It wasn't a complete shit-show for weed everywhere in Colorado yesterday. Aside from a handful of phone calls about whether or not the shops were selling recreational weed and the occasional stop-in from a confused would-be recreational buyer, regular medical marijuana dispensaries had a slow, norma ... The original Atomic Cowboy rode onto East Colfax Avenue a decade ago, and the bi-level bar lassoed a wide range of regulars when it added to its corral with Denver Biscuit Company, serving early-morning eats, as well as Fat Sully's, for lunch and late-night slices. We usually think of street shootings taking place late at night, when darkness cloaking the figures is illuminated only by muzzle flashes. But yesterday, guns blasted in broad daylight, at one of the busiest parts of the city: Colfax between Broadway and Lincoln. As a result, both the State Capitol ... More >>
Colfax Avenue was once a neon jungle. The longest street in America had an electric vibe that could only come from the bright, smoky glow of true neon. It was more than just signage -- it was art. But times have changed. Neon is expensive to maintain and a new generation of more modern signs have ta ... More >>
When I was in high school, I had a friend whose dad called all porn shops "the fuck book store." Mostly, though, he was referring to the joint next to the Bluebird Theatre, because he was very suspicious that we went to that venue so often -- although for seventeen-year-old, third-wave rude boys and ... I drove by Smiley's Laundromat last night and felt one of those annoying sighs cross my chest -- a chest pain caused by the sight of possible improvement to a place that I used to enjoy for its utter sketchiness. I would love to say there was another reason for my visiting Nature's Cure III on Colfax, but there just isn't. The shop isn't really known for much more than rock-bottom pricing on their buds, and there's often a line to get in -- so I figured I'd finally make a stop and see just how far $25 could ... More >>

But like Radiator Springs ... More >>

I've been eyeing the CCF sign on Colfax for years now. It's one of the most prominent MMJ signs on Colfax, while at the same time being relatively modest. Just three big letters on an old neon marquee. I always assumed the sign was probably the best part about the otherwise discount-looking shop.
Patricia Calhoun's item about a Denver City Council food fight over building a new Sunflower Market on Colfax sparked a strong take from one of our most regular commenters after the project was approved. Here's what he had to say.
Teal NippAt lunchtime on Saturday, I dragged a couple of friends east on Colfax, eager to sate my curiosity about Bourbon Grill, the walk-up window under a red awning that seems to always have an eclectic line of people waiting for an order.

It may be that the powers-that-be of Civic Center Park have Denver Big Air, which starts tomorrow, locked down tighter than a low-income high school, but that's not going to stop the determined winter sports enthusiast from seeing it for free. Man, being in a band is hard. Sometimes it's so hard that in order to eat, you need to stand on Colfax and Speer to get people into your show. That was apparently the reason why the bands decided to utilize the cardboard box to advertise their show this Saturday, or so we're assuming.
Channel 7 recently stopped by the 5300 block of East Colfax Avenue, to talk to Jill Warner and Erick Roorda, the owners of Mod Livin', about the neighborhood dispute that's gone "ballistic," as Roorda says, since they opened Deluxe Burger with restaurateur Dylan Moore, then launched the Littl ...
