  • Red Rocks Riot, 1971

Jethro Tull's 1971 show at Red Rocks was almost the last rock show ever held at the venue In 1971 at early rock show at Red Rocks featuring Jethro Tull, unruly fans turned the venue into a war zone. It started when fans who couldn't get get tickets for the sold-out show decided to climb the hills behind the venue to get in. The police responded with copious amounts of tear gas, and the result was a full-scale riot -- stuff thrown at cops, heads busted, cars tipped, the whole enchilada. Amazing

  • Denver Broncos on hunt for new talent. (No, this isn't a Jay Cutler joke.)

Are you a Broncos fan? Maybe your friends and family have been telling you how great you'd be singing the national anthem at Broncos home games. Or maybe your in a local rock or bluegrass band that thinks you have what it takes to entertain Broncos fans during the legendary pre-game tailgate parties. If any of this applies to you or someone you know, then the Denver Broncos want to hear from you.

  • More non-musical influences

photo by Chad FahnestockPicking up a thread I started on Tuesday, in which I confessed to judging a band's performance based on elements that, honestly, had nothing to do with the music, I'd like to turn now to the flip side. Last weekend, I decided I liked an act before it even took the stage. Once again, my snap judgment had nothing to do with the music.

There's more... you know we always have more than one act on the mainstage, right? Well, how about some Mudhoney? (No, we're not kidding.) Wait, it gets even better. Ever heard of a little band from Denver called the Fluid? Uh-huh, got them, too. Last but certainly not least, before they kick off their summer tour with the F

  • Rene Marie moving on from "Black National Anthem" flap

Rene Marie. Today at 11 p.m. on KUVO/89.3 FM, a public-radio station that specializes in jazz and blues, singer Rene Marie will perform live for Denver Public Schools music students as part of a KUVO/DPS partnership program. However, the station's press release makes no mention of the reason many, if not most, members of the general public know Marie's name: her decision to sing a version of what's known as the "Black National Anthem" in place of "The Star Spangled Banner" at a State of the Cit

  • Okay, Denver, we need to talk.

I just received a press release from the Salt Lake City Arts Council (cue the Pace picante sauce dudes asking incredulously, "Salt Lake City?!") informing me of their Twilight Concert Series. Evidently, the concerts, which are free and take place every Thursday night at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake, are among "the best loved concert series in Utah." Not hard to see why. Take a look at the line-up: On July 9, Bon Iver and Jenny Lewis stop by, followed by the Black Keys and Human High

  • Eclectic Concerts: More exciting than normal chamber music

The Intermezzo Faculty, who will be performing at Kirk of Bonnie Brae tomorrow night as part of the Eclectic Concerts series.Of classical music's many charms, vitality is hardly one of them; most of the big names are long-dead white guys. So Eclectic Concerts, a chamber music series now in its third year, is remarkable for including music from around the world and from this century alongside the powder-wigged Europeans.
