  • Could the end of the election season make Dan Caplis listenable again?

During the lead-up to the 2008 election, KHOW radio host Dan Caplis focused all of his considerable intellect on the destruction of Barack Obama -- a mission that caused him to become a shrill caricature of himself. (Check out the June blog "Dan Caplis and His Jihad Against Barack Obama" for a sample.) But last night's program, co-hosted as usual with designated faux-liberal Craig Silverman, served as a reminder that Caplis can be an interesting and worthwhile voice when he doesn't allow his c

  • KHOW's Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman have the Ward Churchill trial covered

KHOW's Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman. Today may really be the day when former University of Colorado-Boulder prof Ward Churchill finally takes the stand in his wrongful-termination suit against the school -- if Churchill attorney David Lane finally tires of excoriating law professor Mimi Wesson, that is. And among the best ways to keep up with developments is to listen to the coverage offered up by KHOW yakkers Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman. The twosome don't offer up strongly contrasting vi

  • Take that, Caplis and Silverman: DU student website brings legal expertise to Ward Churchill trial coverage

A banner from TheRaceToTheBottom.org. In Tuesday's blog "KHOW's Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman Have the Ward Churchill Trial Covered," I shared my view that the aforementioned radio duo's segments about Churchill's wrongful termination suit against the University of Colorado-Boulder are worth hearing, despite their obvious and oft-stated prejudice against the controversial prof, due in part to their legal background. In response, a commenter pointed me and others to an online source with which

  • Is KHOW's Craig Silverman giving tips to CU's attorney in the Ward Churchill trial?

A graphic from the WardChurchillTrial website. A couple of intriguing entries today on WardChurchillTrial, a pro-Churchill website that's been tracking the controversial professor's wrongful termination lawsuit against the University of Colorado at Boulder. The first, titled "Wagging the Dog," alleges that KHOW talk-show host Craig Silverman, an attorney who co-hosts afternoon broadcasts at the station with fellow lawyer Dan Caplis, visited the courtroom yesterday and handed Patrick O'Rourke, t

  • KHOW's Craig Silverman responds -- sort of -- to report about him assisting CU in Ward Churchill trial

Craig Silverman. In a blog entitled "Is KHOW's Craig Silverman Giving Tips to CU's Attorney in the Ward Churchill Trial?," I referenced two blog posts (click here and here to read them) from WardChurchillTrial, a pro-Churchill website that's been tracking the progress of the prof's wrongful termination lawsuit against the University of Colorado at Boulder, which enters the closing-argument phase today. These items suggested that KHOW talk-show host Craig Silverman, a lawyer by training, had giv

  • Ward Churchill wins...a dollar

Ward Churchill. The verdict has arrived in Ward Churchill's wrongful-termination lawsuit against the University of Colorado at Boulder, and it's a mixed bag. The jury found that Churchill was dismissed in part because of things he said -- something that, if I remember correctly, is supposed to be protected by one of those Amendment thingies. However, the amount of monetary damages awarded to him was $1. These messages will be interpreted differently by the various parties. On KHOW, Dan Caplis

  • Dan Caplis has a man-crush on Craig Silverman's upper lip

Craig Silverman at his most aerodynamic. Despite their (sometimes) divergent opinions on the issues of the day, Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman, who co-host the afternoon-drive slot on KHOW/630 AM, clearly have a great deal of affection for each other. But most listeners probably didn't know just how fond Caplis was of his partner until yesterday, when Silverman showed up sans his mustache, which he's worn for as long as most locals can remember. When Caplis wasn't casting doubts on the sincerit

  • Beating Caplis and Silverman in the Ward Churchill debate

Ward Churchill. Another Ward Churchill court appearance, another opportunity for KHOW talk-show hosts Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman to portray the controversial professor, who yesterday argued for reinstatement to his University of Colorado at Boulder job, as the gray roots of all evil. Kudos, then, to a caller bold enough to present a contrarian view. She argued briefly (because "briefly" was the best she could manage in this forum) that putting Churchill behind a CU podium again would be app

Bob Beauprez.Despite signs earlier this month that Bob Beauprez was itching to take on Michael Bennet in the 2010 race for the U.S. Senate, the former congressman and failed gubernatorial hopeful has decided against taking the plunge. Still, it's clear that the temptation to run was strong. Yesterday afternoon, he filled in for Dan Caplis on KHOW's afternoon-drive show, and while introducing guest commentator Michael Barone, regular host Craig Silverman teasingly identified Beauprez as a

After spotlighting quotes from Weaver and station exec Carolyn Kane shrugging off any scent of controversy over the couples' quasi-salacious pose, Ostrow essentially suggests that, given the difficulties the TV industry

See! Josh Penry really does want to spend more time with his family.Josh Penry made his decision to pull out of the 2010 gubernatorial race official yesterday, issuing a statement that stops considerably short of formally endorsing his main conservative rival for the office, Scott McInnis. He likewise avoided anointing McInnis the Republican most worthy of taking down current guv Bill Ritter during a late afternoon appearance on KHOW with Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman, whose comments tow
