Nearly two minutes of Born in the Flood's "Anthem" was used in last night's episode of One Tree Hill. Local musician Dan Craig and former Colorado resident Katie Herzig and have also had songs placed in the show. Check out the clip after the jump. The Born in the Flood guys are also gearing up for their holiday revue show at the Bluebird on Friday, December 12. • This Thursday morning: Dom and Jane's Warm & Fuzzy Christmas show on Mix 100

Bells will be ringing, this sad sad sad news/Oh what a Christmas to have the blues/My baby's gone/I have no friends, to wish me greetings once again... Every year at this time, for as long as I can remember -- hell, probably since I first heard the tune when I toiled as "holiday help" at Musicland at the Northglenn Mall back in high school -- "Please Come Home for Christmas" gets embedded in my head and I can't shake it. It's permanently become associated with jolly old Saint Fatty and his holid

  • More Moovers & Shakers picks

By now, hopefully you've had a chance to peruse this year's Moovers & Shakers. A lot of great stuff released this year, yeah? Too much, in fact. There were more releases that moved us than we had space in the paper. Thank God for the web, eh? As promised, here's more Moovers and Shakers picks. By no means should any of the following albums be considered also-rans. Each of the releases listed after the jump had just as big an impact on us this year as the others. Oh, and this is the first ba

  • Mile High Makeout: Coming home

Photo: Adam D'Antonio Jeremy D'Antonio left Colorado a while ago, taking his beautiful acoustic project, Tiny Television, with him. Since then, he has returned a few times for a show or two. On January 16th, however, D'Antonio and Tiny Television make a triumphant return, celebrating the release of a debut full-length album at the hi-dive. With Dan Craig, Britt Rodemich and Tim Pourbaix opening, the night promises to be a warm homecoming.

  • Another great Denver band hits the rocks

photo: blkmtnstudio.comAre you sitting down? You should probably be sitting down for this. Really. Brace yourself. Although it pains us greatly to report that one of the most promising bands to come out of Denver in the past five years or so has stopped breathing, we figured it was best you heard it from a friend. No official word has been issued by anyone -- including the band via its MySpace page -- but we have every indication from with two very reliable sources that Hearts of Palm is going

  • Camped out for the Wheel, Bad Weather California and Young Coyotes

For me, Friday night's show at the hi-dive embodied everything that I love about Denver's shimmering live music scene. With three heavy hitters on the bill from three different-yet-complementary genres, I just wanted to camp out forever, right in front of the hi-dive's humble stage. Any one of the bands playing that night -- The Wheel, Bad Weather California or Young Coyotes -- could have been the headliner, and the near-capacity crowd knew it.

  • Mike Marchant gives away unreleased music

Towering rocker and singer-songwriter Mike Marchant has a well-documented penchant for giving away music. When his band, Widowers, released its debut album, Marchant couldn't give away copies of the painstakingly recorded beauty fast enough. Little has changed since then, as evidenced by a recent e-mail the psych-pop tunesmith sent. The message contained links to download a handful of Widowers and Marchant solo tracks, as well as an exhortation to share liberally. One of those tracks is a concis

  • Here we are. Now entertain us: Dualistics channel Nirvana. Sheryl Renee pays tribute to Marvin Gaye.

Got plans this weekend? If not, you do now. There's a couple of shows totally worth checking out featuring local musicians paying homage to a pair of past icons, groundbreaking, paradigm shifting artists who left this world violently and prematurely. This Friday night at the hi-dive, the Dualistics -- and a slew of guests, including members of Hello Kavita, Achille Lauro, the Wheel, Ghost Buffalo, and John Common, Dan Craig, Jen Korte, Mike Marchant, Angie Stevens -- will be playing In Utero, Ni

  • Mile Hi-Fidelity playlist - 06.17.09

Turned in an economy version of the show last night. No guests, no co-host. Not much to report really. Just one guy, one mike and two dozen handpicked tunes. Where was my faithful sidekick, you ask? Why Mr. Thomas had a show last night at the Larimer Lounge, as he dutifully reminded me via text yesterday just a few hours before the show. I, of course, responded, dutifully reminding him that I couldn't make it because, well, I'd be on the radio hosting our show and stuff. Oh, that. Heh-heh. Anyho

  • Q&A with Nathan McGarvey

Black Mountain StudiosHearts of Palm started out in the winter of 2006 as a pop song writing collaboration between former Roper and Black Black Ocean guitarist Stephen Till and longtime friend Nathan McGarvey. Within the following year, the project expanded to eight plus members and the band's sound went from a spare and earnest beauty to an exuberant and impassioned exorcism of melancholy moods. During the course of the band's existence, it won accolades from critics and fans alike and relea
