  • KBCO Studio C celebrates its twentieth anniversary with two-CD set

Just received an advance of KBCO's Studio C 20th Anniversary Edition. The 38-song two-disc set, celebrating two decades of in-studio performances, gathers tracks from a few of the usual suspects (Dave Matthews Band, Sheryl Crow), alongside some rare gems from the likes of Jeff Buckley, Dr. John and Tom Waits, as well as some local contributions from Big Head Todd and the Monsters, DeVotchKa and Richie Furay. As with past releases, proceeds from the disc, which goes on sale for $15 on Saturday,

Last night, while at the Boulder version of Everything Absent or Distorted's CD-release show, I had the opportunity to chat with DeVotchKa trumpeter Shawn King. In addition to appearing with EAOD and his rock-star gig with DeVotchKa, King has a new project that he was excited to talk about: Boba Fett and the Americans.

  • DeVotchKa in New York and live broadcast in Philly

On the heels of the Fluid invading NYC the weekend prior, DeVotchKa, another Denver act, played a show on Saturday night at Webster Hall in New York. Evidently, the set was quite well received, according to this pair of blog posts we came across -- the latter of which contains more great photos like the one pasted above. As with the Fluid show, Brooklyn Vegan also has a write-up and another stellar set of photos. Added bonus: The night before in Philadelphia, the group taped a performance at WXP

Photo: Gary Isaacs DeVotchKa, Quixotic Friday, Feb. 13 Paramount Theater Better than: Seeing one of Denver's most effusive and entrancing local acts in a stripped-down, sullen setting. Atmosphere can make a big difference.I've seen members of DeVotchKa play in various incarnations and in a wide variety of venues during the past ten years. As a teenager, I took them in as a full quartet at the Mercury Café; I saw frontman Nick Urata and violinist/accordionist Tom Hagerman open for Iron and Wine

This week: DJ Ginger, who brought fun theme nights to Denver like chickens and waffles back in the day and
