  • Colorado Crimes: Watch your wallets and purses in Lakewood, Boulder

A suspect in a Boulder identity-theft case. Yesterday, the police departments in Lakewood and Boulder put out warnings about wallet thefts within minutes of each other. Seventeen wallet thefts have taken place in Lakewood since February 1, while Boulder is looking for purse snatchers in two specific incidents. A photo of the first Boulder-area suspect is seen here; a shot of the second can be seen after the jump, along with the respective releases.

  • Colorado Crimes: Arrest made in Lakewood wallet thefts

Tony White, kinda/sorta ready for his closeup. Last week, we told you about a series of seventeen wallet thefts in Lakewood since February. But rest easy (or at least easier), Lakewood shoppers. Over the weekend, local cops arrested Tony White, 46, after he allegedly tried to lift a wallet from a shopping cart at a Colfax King Soopers -- and in the course of the investigation, they became confident enough that he had been involved in many, if not all, of the other snatchings that they are now d

  • Hey, drunk drivers: Get busted here tonight

The "100 Days of Heat" campaign, in which local police agencies step up their efforts to put drunk drivers behind bars before they can kill anyone, is in full force this weekend in at least a couple of local municipalities. Lakewood is announcing a handful of sobriety checkpoints to be put in place tonight, while Boulder wants boozers too stupid to take a cab to know they'll be offering free breath tests Saturday night into Sunday morning. • Mile High Murder, No. 30: Roommate-on-roommate shooting at 5300 W. Arizona Avenue in Lakewood

View Larger MapCohabitation can be a challenge under the best circumstances -- but problems are seldom solved by gunplay.... Just past 4 a.m. this morning, officers from the Lakewood Police Department responded to word of a shooting at 5300 W. Arizona Avenue, an area captured in the graphic above (if you have problems seeing the image, click "View Larger Map"). Early reports suggest that one roommate killed another -- and a third person in the vicinity was also injured. Read the LPD's official

  • Mile High Murder, No. 32: Death of Bonnie Bergin in house fire being investigated as homicide

Bonnie Bergin.Last week, Bonnie Bergin's body was found amid flames that destroyed a house she was renting on West 20th Avenue in Lakewood -- and now, the Lakewood Police Department has formally determined that she was murdered. At this point, the LPD isn't releasing her cause of death, which suggests Bergin, 49, might have been killed by a means other than fire, and that the blaze was set in an attempt to destroy evidence. Then again, maybe I just watch too much television. Read the off

  • Mile High Murder, No. 32: Britt Allan Cox charged in arson death of Bonnie Bergin

Bonnie Bergin.Yesterday, the Lakewood Police Department announced that it was investigating a house fire last week on West 20th Avenue as a homicide; Bonnie Bergin, 49, who'd been renting the home, was found dead inside. Now, the LPD has made an arrest. Brit Allan Cox, 40, has been formally accused of first-degree murder. He was questioned after the blaze, then busted on Wednesday in a stolen car; he was in custody when officials decided to level the murder charge against him -- and there

  • Shaggy Bandit spills all about bank-robbing spree

Shaggy in action.Michael A. Kincade, dubbed the Shaggy Bandit, must not take that whole you-have-the-right-to-remain-silent thing very seriously. Shortly after he and an accomplice, the nickname-challenged Christopher Lee Richardson, were captured last week, Kincade gave a jailhouse interview to 9News. And the criminal complaint written out against him by the U.S. Attorney's Office makes it clear that his lips remained unzipped during conversations with authorities. He provides all kinds

  • Bank-robbery suspect's biggest mistake: Using a bicycle as a getaway car

If only Dion Morgan had a set of wheels like these, he might've made it...I thought everyone had seen Hollywood movies in which an armed criminal brazenly sticks up a bank, then races his bags of cash outside and hops into a souped-up vehicle capable of outrunning any cop car that dares to follow. But apparently Dion K. Morgan was movie-deprived, because after allegedly knocking over Liberty Savings Bank, at 7575 W. Jewell Avenue, he tried to get away on... a bicycle. Morgan made it abo

  • Mile High Murder, No. 53: Thomas William Boyle booked on vehicular homicide for Harlan Street hit and run that killed Raymond Rivera

Thomas William Boyle should have taken a cab.Late Monday evening, Raymond Rivera, 48, tried to cross Harlan Street at Alameda Avenue. Unfortunately, he didn't make it -- and the vehicle that struck him didn't stop. According to the Lakewood Police Department, Rivera was struck by a van driven by 48-year-old Thomas William Boyle, who was later booked for felony hit and run, driving under the influence, careless driving and vehicular homicide. A bad drive for all concerned. Check out more
