  • Tonight: Find a patio, a party -- or both

Restaurants and bars all over town opened their patios Sunday -- on the first of March! -- to take advantage of the unseasonable temperatures. You can enjoy both the unbelievably balmy weather and incredible views from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, March 3, at the Vistas at Park Meadows, where La Sandia will host its monthly rooftop tequila-tasting featuring the best of Casa Noble. A $25 ticket buys you apps, music and plenty of tequila; for more information, call 303-586-5511.Back in town, the Leukemia

  • Some LoDo restaurants shovel out

Downtown is a relative ghost town tonight, with even such mainstays as Dixons closed on account of snow. But there are still restaurants serving tonight, chief among them P.F. Chang's at 1415 15th Street (the only one of the metro locations open, and seating a fair amount of tables as well as doing a big takeout business) and, just around the corner in Larimer Square, the Capital Grille, Rioja and Bistro Vendome. There's no business like snow business.

  • Second chance for Rioja

Chef Jennifer Jasinski at Rioja.Kurobuta pork belly, seared on the surface, rubbed with cardamom, properly rested so that it isn't wet with fat, and mounted atop a chunky mound of curry-spiced garbanzo bean puree, green like smashed peas, smooth as whipped potatoes. It's a singularly delicious plate -- the best of a whole, long stretch of them that kept mounting with each meal at Rioja. The doughnuts; a plate of house-made mozzarella wrapped in smoked prosciutto, topped with a roasted tomato jam

  • The List: Living it up on Larimer

So now that I've squared things with Rioja in this week's re-review and detailed about a decade's worth of history on Larimer Square, what else is there to do?So glad you asked... Below, find this week's list of all the best places on Larimer Square -- and why. Now, if you find yourself craving a Rioja picnic or maybe a nice bowl of Jen Jasinski's pork belly but get turned away at the door because the wait is, like, twelve hours for a table, you'll have this handy guide of other worthy places to

  • A closer look at LoHi Steakbar

The boys from Larimer Square have been making us wait seemingly forever for LoHi SteakBar to open in the former North Star space at 3200 Tejon. Their last neighborhood venture (beyond Larimer Square) was the wildly successful Billy's Inn, which has been packing them in since its opening. Like Billy's, the LoHi SteakBar has undergone a complete makeover. In fact, a complete transformation. It is now light and airy, with ceilings that never stop -- a far cry from the cavernous feeling of North

  • Lots of action on Market Street

1437 Market Street could soon hold a new restaurant/bar.Westword's first office was located in the 1400 block of Market Street, before that area was nicknamed LoDo, before Larimer Square a block away was one of the hottest restaurant neighborhoods in town, back when our neighbors were parking lots and restaurant and hospital supply companies. The space right below our office went through a roller-skating store and a futon store and an adult-toy store in rapid succession. Since then, the area ha

  • Martini Ranch and Hiccups III dry up

The Arizona-based Martini Ranch USA, which owns Martini Ranch clubs in Scottsdale and San Diego, abruptly closed its Denver space at 1317 14th Street at the end of July. "Right now it's in negotiations with the chain ownership and a remodel," Jason Witkes, the venue's marketing coordinator, told Jon Solomon, our clubs editor. We're willing to be it won't reopen as the Martini Ranch, remodeled or not. This space around the corner from Larimer Square, now a hot dining destination, is a valuable p

  • Fired Up for Fire Fighters Chili Cook Off

Fired Up For Kids Last year I added another day to my list of favorite unofficial holidays. Before 2008, my list was as follows: Opening day of the Rockies, St. Patrick's Day, July 4th, New Orleans Jazz Fest, Halloween, Stock Show, Talk Like a Pirate Day, the first day of skiing and New Year's Day. Then I discovered the Fire Fighters Chili Cook Off on Larimer Square, which quickly became an integral part of the list. Who knew a few hours over a Friday lunch could be so much fun? Beer,
