  • Rearview: The Week in Review (11/17/08-11/21/08)

Leave the Gun. Take the cannoli. All eyes -- or ears, rather -- in the music world, including ours, were on Chinese Democracy this week. Most of us honestly never thought we'd live to see the release of the mythical Guns N' Roses record, and now that we had a chance to listen to it all the way through, we're sticking by our original assessment, based on hearing just a few songs: meh. Although parts of it are infinitely more listenable than expected, as a whole, it doesn't really seem to have

  • 3OH!3 gets key to the city

Copyright 2009 NBAE (photo: Garrett W. Ellwood/NBAE via Getty Images)Just received word that the wisenheimers of 3OH!3...wait...what's that? Oh, right. Sure. Ahem...it seems we got our, uh, wires crossed there. Evidently, Sean Foreman and Nate Motte didn't actually get the, er, key to the city. Our bad. But they did get to hand off the ball at a Nuggets game last week -- as previously reported -- which, as we all know, is practically, like, the same thing, right? Anyhow, here's a shot of the boy

Oh, hell yes. It appears that Snarf's, a veritable sandwich institution in Boulder, is opening a location at 11th and Ogden in Capitol Hill. It already has the ovens and counters installed inside, so hopefully it won't be too long before we can get a hot dog, American cheese and bacon sandwich -- the way Mama used to make.

  • Slim Cessna's Auto Club hits the road with Reverend Horton Heat

Photo: Gary IsaacsBefore heading off across the pond for a sizable nineteen-day jaunt through Europe in April, Slim Cessna's Auto Club will be crisscrossing Colorado in the company of the Reverend Horton Heat. Kicking things off at the Ogden Theatre this Friday night alongside Reno Divorce, the band will accompany the good Reverend and his crew to Boulder, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs and a handful of dates in the mountains. Full dates posted after the jump.

  • Reno Divorce at the Ogden Theatre

I was shuttling between the hi-dive and the Larimer Lounge on Friday night, so unfortunately, I didn't catch Reno Divorce and Slim Cessna heating things up for Reverend Horton Heat at the Ogden. But from the sounds of it -- Jon Solomon was at the show -- both acts tore it up, and although it took the Rev and company a couple of songs to get their legs, they were dependably on point as well. Check out a few songs from Reno's set after the jump.

  • Over the weekend: The Avett Brothers at the Ogden Theatre

The Avett Brothers, Sally Ford and the Sound Outside Saturday, Aug. 22 Ogden Theatre Better than: Most of the shows I've seen this summer. I never thought I'd see a full-fledged hootenanny on the stage of the Ogden Theatre. But during choice moments of the Avett Brothers' Saturday set, an appearance that wrapped up a series of four Colorado appearances in as many days, I felt swept up by a communal fervor and zeal that seemed straight out of an old-timey camp meeting. Indeed, the two-hour s
