  • Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Frank Black shows annouced

The Flaming Lips know all about putting on a hell of a show, and the Monolith Festival gig at Red Rocks in 2007 was one most phenomenal things to happen to that venue in the last few years. Lets hope for a repeat performance when the Lips return to Red Rocks Sunday, August 23 with Explosions in the Sky and Star Death & the White Dwarfs, which features Wayne Coyne's nephew Dennis. Tickets, which run from $36.75 to $46.50, go on sale Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. And as an added bonus, all tick

  • Sunny Day Real Estate reunion tour hits Denver this September

By now you've probably heard that Sunny Day Real Estate, one of my all-time favorite bands and an act whose influence can not be overstated, is reuniting and heading out on the road for twenty dates with the original line-up. We just received word that the tour, which kicks off on September 17 in Vancouver and will coincide with re-issues of Diary and LP2, will be making a stop at the Ogden Theatre on Monday, September 21. For most folks, this will be their first opportunity to the see the band

Shane MacGowan and his new set of choppers. Last month, The Sun reported that Shane MacGowan got himself a new pair of dentures to stop his face from "falling apart" after 35 years on the thrash. Sure, the dude's been known as a drunkard of the highest order, he's missed a few planes to gigs over the years and eventually got kicked out of the band. Just the same, some of us are probably just as surprised to see MacGowan on tour again with the original line-up (Jem Finer, Spider Stacy, James Fear

Aaron Thackeray Tuesday, July 21, 2009 Ogden Theatre Better Than: Chaperoning an unchaperoned prom. Not that different, but definitely better. It's not often someone asks you, during the first song of a headliner's set, "Who is this?" It's even less often that when you answer with the name of the headliner, the person actually argues with you. But it happened to me last night, two songs into Kid Cudi's masterful show at the Ogden. And I have to say, I can't blame the dude. Here's why he was

Although her feet might have still been on the ground, those first three songs, which also included the opener "Stereo Sanctity" and "No Way," had enough juice to start levitating some people musically during the sold out show. As far as people loving Gordon yet, well, it's hard not to love one of the

There is a long tradition of ex-punk rockers trading in their power chords and electric guitars for the idyllic green pastures of folk music. Frank Turner of Winchester, England made that very leap a few years ago after the breakup of his progressive hardcore band Million Dead had reached its zenith and he hasn't looked back since. Armed only with his voice, an acoustic guitar and a batch of socially conscious and sometimes politically flavored folk rock songs, Turner has garnered a growi

This Saturday, October 10, college rock heroes Yo La Tengo are bringing the noise, the melody and the irony to Denver in the best indie-when-it-meant-something show this side of the Pavement reunion.
