  • Young Coyotes to record Daytrotter Session

Photo: Allister AnnYoung Coyotes, still among my favorite local bands, has announced plans to record a Daytrotter session in Davenport, Iowa, on Thursday, December 4, at the end of its current cross country jaunt, which wraps later that night at the Blue Fugue in Columbia, Missouri. Only a scant few Denver bands have had the distinction so far of receiving the Daytrotter treatment. Nice work, fellas! Props.

  • Colorado baller becomes Gonzaga's not-so-secret weapon

Athletic skill seldom waits for developmental maturity to blossom. It's obvious from the beginning, as is demonstrated by the case of Matt Bouldin. A few years back, my wife was an assistant principal of St. Thomas More School, a K-8 facility that's in the Archdiocese of Denver system, and she remembers young Matt as being a veritable prodigy at any sport he attempted. He subsequently moved on to ThunderRidge High School, where he helped lead the boys' basketball team to the state finals in 20

  • Update: Cephalic Carnage tours with Mayhem

Update: More shows added, see full list of dates after the jump. In news that's sure to have local metal fans googling airfare before they even finishing reading this post, we just learned that Cephalic Carnage has been tapped to support Mayhem's upcoming North American tour, fittingly dubbed Blackened Fest. Seems right, as Cephalic is pretty much the only band brutal enough to hang with the Mayhem, a Norwegian black-metal band whose history is littered with violent, inexplicable episodes that a

  • Breathe Carolina premiers new video, tours until the end of time

Breathe Carolina, a band that tours so often these days that it almost doesn't seem like a Denver band anymore (seriously, with the exception of April and May, the act is going to be on the road from now until at least the end of August; check out the list of tour dates on the next page), recently premiered its video for the track "Diamonds." The clip -- which begins in stately black and white before morphing into an utter explosion of vibrant colors at the halfway point -- evokes a certain teen

In support of Yes, their tenth full-length album(!), synth-pop kings Pet Shop Boys have just announced an eighteen-date North American tour, to begin at the end of August. The show promises to be filled with plenty of costumes, capers and theatricality. Unfortunately, the tour schedule is focused on the coasts, only coming inland for a single night in Chicago. • Tilted Kilt goes for a liquor license

The Tilted Kilt has been called a Celtic Hooters -- a label that its Arizona-based owners don't appreciate, we hear. They prefer "The Best Looking Sports Pub You've Ever Seen," the slogan on the web site. A sports pub with waitresses who wear naughty school-girl skirts. There are already 22 Tilted Kilts around the country; one just opened in Birmingham, Alabama, and locations are in the pipeline for Atlanta, Orlando and Denver, among other cities. Our Tilted Kilt is taking over the space
