Goldstein joined me in the studio for the first of a two part Moovers & Shakers special edition of the show. Over the course of two hours, as we discussed and played some of our favorite music from the past year, we swung through a wide array of styles, from shimmery indie rock and pop to psych pop and metal to hip-hop and jazz to folk and Americana. In two weeks -- we're taking Christmas eve off

  • Mile High Makeout: Shadowy man on a shadowy planet

(photo: Jeff Klapperich)While I was out last weekend, an unassuming gentleman approached me and asked if I had room in my pocket for a CD. We'd met before, but I didn't remember that in the moment. I hate when I forget names and faces. Fortunately, Donny Rose was forgiving and gracious as he handed me a five-song EP by his band, My Shadow's Existence. I was wearing capacious jeans that night, and slipped the disc into my back pocket as I shook his hand.

If that's true in cliché form as well, then the show at GlobGlobGlob on Thursday night was so far under the radar, it was pretty much lying on the ground. And it may or may not have been passed out. Which is not to say t

  • Rachael Pollard: tough on trash

Marcus HuserDenver singer-songwriter Rachael Pollard has (thankfully) had more than her allotted fifteen minutes of fame around town over the past few years. But what the heck, here's another fifteen seconds: In a report that aired yesterday on CBS4 News concerning the city's proposed trash-collection fee, Pollard -- identified by the station as Rachel [sic] Marcy [her married name] -- is interviewed by reporter Terry Jessup, and she's briefly allowed to give her views on this hot-button issu

  • Got plans after The Denver Film Festival? You do now.

It's that time again. Next Thursday night, the Denver Film Festival kicks off. Although the various films are clearly the main draw, by no means are they the only attraction. As in years past, the real excitement takes place after the screenings.
