  • Update: Westword Music Showcase line-up

Update: As with year's past, before the ink's even dry on the schedule, we've had to make made some minor more changes. Among the recent ones: We've moved the metal showcase from Andrew's to Broadways (two doors down from Bar Standard, next to the pawnshop), and moved the punk line-up to Bannock Street Garage. Cooking is outside my purview, so I was clear to catch a nice line up of Denver talent, most notably Paper Bird, and finally make it to a show at the Oriental, which I had somehow never

  • This weekend: Autokinoton closes up shop at 3 Kings Tavern, Fight With Food drive at Toad Tavern, Horse, 3 the Hardway and Photo Atlas CD release

Well, sadly, the rumors that have been swirling about for a while now are indeed true. Autokinoton is about to be put to rest. Despite issuing word this past summer that there wouldn't be one, the act's final show is slated for Saturday, February 28, at 3 Kings Tavern, with Kingdom of Magic, Spirit of the Stairs and Space in Time. A moment of silence seems to be in order. Godspeed, gentlemen. You had a great run and will be sorely missed.

David BarberJohn Baxter and Matty Clark in the fleshThe picture above pretty much tells the tale of last night's Westword Music Showcase Awards -- drunk and debaucherous. Hugs were smiles were plentiful, as was the booze that flowed freely before the ceremony kicked off. There were a few miscues, but all in all everything went off without a hitch. Special thanks to all the folks who gr

A group of engineering students who are passionate about music? Nonetheless, that's exactly the basis for Something Like Sound, a blog launched by the staff of the Colorado School of Mines newspaper, the Oredigger. Frequently updated, Something Like Sound has steadily become a trusted resource when it c
