  • Young Coyotes to record Daytrotter Session

Photo: Allister AnnYoung Coyotes, still among my favorite local bands, has announced plans to record a Daytrotter session in Davenport, Iowa, on Thursday, December 4, at the end of its current cross country jaunt, which wraps later that night at the Blue Fugue in Columbia, Missouri. Only a scant few Denver bands have had the distinction so far of receiving the Daytrotter treatment. Nice work, fellas! Props.

  • Breathe Carolina premiers new video, tours until the end of time

Breathe Carolina, a band that tours so often these days that it almost doesn't seem like a Denver band anymore (seriously, with the exception of April and May, the act is going to be on the road from now until at least the end of August; check out the list of tour dates on the next page), recently premiered its video for the track "Diamonds." The clip -- which begins in stately black and white before morphing into an utter explosion of vibrant colors at the halfway point -- evokes a certain teen

  • Denver wins cat-olades for its microchipping tuna-flavored sidewalks

A Flickr photo.Mmmmm, Denver. If you're furry, sleepy and sort of bitchy, Denver is apparently where you want to be. The Mile High City was recently named one of the top 10 cat-friendly cities by the national CATalyst Council, a group dedicated to championing the house cat. (If you fit the above description and you're NOT a house cat, the CATalyst Council has no advice for you. But Denver is probably as good a place as any.) Also in the top ten: Tampa, Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland, Boston,

  • Can you smell summer yet?

If winter is the new summer when it comes to firing up the backyard grill (as I reported last December), then the big snowfalls of the past few weeks mean spring must be the new winter - which is fine, since winter is summer anyway. I think. And summer begins for real the first day you smell those delicious steaks and burgers cooking on your damned neighbor's grill. But according to a recent study, the smell of food grilling outdoors is so powerful that it can change your attitude and "stir act

  • Pet Shop Boys announce tour, skip Denver

In support of Yes, their tenth full-length album(!), synth-pop kings Pet Shop Boys have just announced an eighteen-date North American tour, to begin at the end of August.
