MS = main stage, P = patio Six Months to Live - 12:00 - MS Actually, this got started at more like 12:20 or so. What, a festival running late? Inconceivable! I've got the most recent Six Months to Live album and have enjoyed its poppy goodness for sometime - matter of fact, I had "Spin a Top" stuck in my head for a couple days before the festival

Alan Baird Project, 12:00 p.m. It's never easy being the first band to play at an all-day event. Typically, bands that are booked to perform early in the day have to work a lot harder to get the word out and rally crowds to come see them. Thankfully, the Alan Baird Project was up to the task, and had a surprisingly big crowd (despite the band's under-21 fans being turned away at the door

  • Over the weekend: Wilco at Red Rocks

Wilco and Okkervil River Friday, July 3, 2008 Red Rocks Amphitheatre Better than: Wilco's show at the Pikes Peak Center last year. Just as Wilco took the stage, the theme from the Price is Right played and two people cloaked in a camel suit pranced across the stage. Sure, it might have been a bit silly, but so is having a camel on the cover of your album, which is the case on the band's latest recording, Wilco (the album). Whatever the case, the camel, the game show theme and the bouncy o

  • NPR's All Songs Considered weighs in on the best music of 2009

Last time we checked, there's still a good four months left until the end of the year. Regardless, that hasn't stopped Bob Boilen and company from NPR's All Songs Considered from weighing in on the best music of 2009 (so far). Actually, check that -- the results, which were posted on the show's blog last week, were evidently voted on by the listeners, who apparently really, really dig Animal Collective. Take a look at their picks after the jump and see if you agree. Did they get it right, or

  • Q&A with Bob Crawford of the Avett Brothers

CrackerfarmArena rock is making a comeback. Thanks to bands like My Morning Jacket, Wilco and North Carolina's the Avett Brothers, the spirit and tradition of the '70s is swelling and helping to conjure up images of rock and roll when it was at it's purest, most visceral and most likely bearded. We recently spoke with Bob Crawford, bass player for the Avett Brothers, and discussed how the band's humble beginnings transformed into music being produced by the legendary Rick Rubin. • Nels Cline collaborates with the Bottesini Project

On Naima's Grass Pajamas, Paul Riola's Bottesini Project has assembled something of a dream lineup, including guitar legend Nels Cline of Wilco, bassist Keenan Wayne, CacheFlowe, Janet Feder and Glenn Taylor. The musicians recorded a day's worth of improvisations, then Riola and Colin Bricker spent many additional hours in the studio assembling the final product. "We collaged a lot of the sessions together, so we could form what we thought was a coherent narrative of the improvisations,"

Jon SolomonThe Bottesini Project Friday, October 16, 2009Notably Fine AudioBetter than: Any other local collective improvisation group.   One of the great things about Bottesini Project shows is the uniqueness of each performance. Since the shows are based completely based on collective improvisations, there's a freshness and vibrancy about the performances that's not found in rehashed jazz standards or playing tunes that have been completely mapped out. While the idea of free jazz might
