The scene at Crave, especially on weekends, can be complete pandemonium, with bodies crushed to the walls, standing in wait to wrap their jaws around what may very well be the most off-the-wall burger inventions this city has ever seen. Head burger boss Micah Watkins, the former exec chef of Black Pearl, works in an exhibition kitchen that anchors the long and narrow space, cranking out Sterling Silver premium beef patties, hand-formed, liberally salted and peppered, diabolically large, and crowned with everything from pulled pork and shredded lamb to ginger-garlic cream cheese, fried queso fresco, roasted poblano chiles, peanut butter, chicken wings and chorizo.
But it's the Luther burger that's the most devilish of all -- a glorious sin ratcheted up with bacon, melted cheddar that oozes down the sides of the juice-dribbling patty, an egg that splashes rivers of yolk and onions all sandwiched between two sugar-smacked doughnuts, soft and glistening with glaze. It's a wickedly good burger that delivers fundamental pleasures -- the kind that make you want to go straight to the confessional with a satisfied smirk on your face.
