A celebration of hops, patriotism and more on the calendar this week
A rare sight this year.
Because of the wildfires, many of the official firework displays around the state have been cancelled. But there are plenty of reasons to take pride in Colorado's exploding culinary scene this week.
Here's what's on the menu:
Monday, July 2:
The fourth annual Jul-IPA began yesterday at West End Tavern, 926 Pearl Street in Boulder. The restaurant is celebrating the almighty hop by pouring some of the country's finest India Pale Ales all month. Click here for a full list of participating breweries and call 303-444-3535 for more information.
And call Frasca Food & Wine at 303-442-6966 to learn more about tonight's weekly wine dinner -- prices and featured wineries vary, but walk-ins are welcome.
Tuesday, July 3:
Whole Foods, 870 South Colorado Boulevard, will still host its annual July 3rd Extravaganza despite the cancellation of the fireworks show in Glendale. The family-friendly event will feature food, live music, activities for the kids and a new Colorado craft-beer tasting for $12 per adult. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.; go to the website for more details.
Wednesday, July 4:
Happy Independence Day! Cafe Society is taking the day off. Celebrate safely! (The city will set up checkpoints...)

Thursday, July 5:
West End Tavern, 926 Pearl Street in Boulder, continues its Fourth of July festivities with Red, White and Oskar Blues: a tap takeover showcasing rare and unique beers from Oskar Blues Brewing Co. Call 303-444-3535 for details.
Saturday, July 7:
VegFest Colorado begins today at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. Sixth Avenue in Golden. The two-day event celebrates the culture of vegetarianism with food, music, movie screenings, speakers and cooking demonstrations. Go to the Vegetarian Society of Colorado's website for details.
