Beer calendar: fruity firkins, a taphouse tour and a new Denver brewery opens
Strange Craft's Tim Myers at the Colorado Malting Company in Alamosa.
On Thursday morning, a group of six small Colorado breweries will take a decidedly modern approach to beer-making when they all brew Simultaneous Saison at the same time at their respective locations across the state. The six breweries -- Denver's Strange Craft, Echo Brewing in Frederick, Monument's Pikes Peak Brewing, Very Nice Brewing in Nederland, Kannah Creek Brewing in Grand Junction, and Butcherknife Brewing in Steamboat Springs -- will unite their efforts via social media with the hashtag #SimultaneousBrew.
For the project, which will begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow, each brewery will use Colorado-grown ingredients, including malt from Colorado Malting Company in Alamosa, Nugget hops from Misty Mountain Hop Farm in Olathe, Chinook hops from High Wire Hops in Paonia, and honey from BeeYond the Hive in Salida. Organizer Tim Myers, of Strange Craft, is urging each brewery to use the same recipe but to finish their beers in their own way. You can follow the progress of the beer on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. It will be served at the eighteenth annual Colorado Brewers Rendezvous in Salida on Saturday, July 12.
