Fall is less than a week away, and the mountains of Colorado glitter with gold. But the culinary scene glitters just as bright this time of year.
Here's a taste of what's on the menu:
Monday, September 17:
Steuben's Food Service, 523 East 17th Avenue, says farewell to summer this evening with the last of this year's Picnic on the Patio series -- a New England-style lobster boil at 6 p.m. The five-course dinner costs $60, which includes drink pairings and a whole lobster per person, but reservations can only be made via e-mail. The Louisville location of Smiling Moose Deli , 459 South McCaslin Boulevard, is celebrating new ownership and five years in business with a giveaway beginning today and running through September 21. The deli will offer free breakfast for a month to the first 100 customers to walk through the door each day; call 303-604-9960 for details.

Monday, September 17 (continued):
In honor of National Cheeseburger Day (September 18), the Palm Restaurant, 1672 Lawrence Street, is featuring a week-long burger-and-fries lunch special for $8.37 -- a nod to the original location at 837 2nd Avenue in New York City. The deal is valid today through Friday, September 21. The Palm will also be offering $1 burger sliders from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. during the week and half-priced wines by the bottle every Sunday and Monday until September 30; call 303-825-7256 for more information.
Twirl Boulder , 1727 15th Street in Boulder, is hosting a five-day grand opening celebration with live music, a magic show, giveaways and a "Twirl" video contest. The new frozen yogurt spot will donate a portion of the week's proceeds to various local charities; visit the website for more information and a full schedule of festivities.
Tuesday, September 18:
Rock Bottom Brewery rolls out its new fall menu today, which includes an award-winning seasonal brew, Rocktoberfest. There will be tapping parties from 6 to 8 p.m. at the following locations: 10633 Westminster Boulevard in Westminster, 9627 East County Line Road in Englewood and 6025 Sky Pond Drive in Loveland -- with the 1001 16th Street location holding off until Thursday, September 20. TAG , 1441 Larimer Street, presents a five-course beer dinner featuring brews from Vail Valley's Crazy Mountain Brewery tonight at 7 p.m. The playful dinner costs $58 per person and includes beer pairings; view the menu here and call 303-996-9985 to RSVP.

Wednesday, September 19:
The girls at Twin Peaks -- 299 East Flatiron Crossing Drive in Broomfield and 14055 West Colfax Drive in Lakewood -- are celebrating "Talk Like a Pirate" Day by, well, talking like pirates while dressed in classic pirate gear: corset blouses, boots and captain hats. And they're encouraging patrons to do the same. Check the website for details.
The brewers at Great Divide Brewing , 2201 Arapahoe Street, have decided to take over half of the handles in the tap room today from 2 to 10 p.m. The crew will showcase the following experimental beers courtesy of their recently acquired pilot system: Belgian-style tripel; an India pale lager; a schwarzbier; an oaked, smoked dunkelweiss; an altbier; a hefeweizen; Baby Yeti, a 3.2 percent ABV version of the brewery's signature stout; and Baby Hercules, a similarly low-alcohol IPA. Wednesday, September 19 (continued):
The thirteenth annual Flavors of Denver takes place this evening from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel, 1111 14th Street. The event features signature dishes from twenty local chefs, including Daniel Asher of Root Down and Linger, Mitch Mayers of Black Pearl, Jensen Cummings of Row 14, Eric Rivera of Cafe|Bar, Joe Henderson of Crave Dessert Bar and Simon Purvis of EDGE Restaurant. Tickets costs $400 per person and proceeds will benefit the American Liver Foundation; visit the website for more information.
Cafe Options , 1650 Curtis Street, is celebrating the growing number of nonprofit cafes in Colorado with a free get-together from 5:30 to 8 p.m. tonight. Attendees can sample food from the following organizations while learning about their missions: Aspen Pointe Café (1675 Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs), Café 180 (3315 S. Euclid Hall, 1317 14th Street, continues its "Road to GABF" with an intimate beer dinner featuring beers from Prost Brewery -- and the menu will complement the German-style philosophy of the brewery. But there are only twenty seats available; call 303-595-4255 to grab one.
Hotmixology Lounge -- a new LoDo spot at 2026 Larimer Street that promises "fresh cocktails served by world-class mixologists in a relaxed urban setting" -- officially opens its doors today at 3 p.m. The lounge offers front and back outdoor seating and a late-night menu featuring "artisan snacks that change seasonally using ingredients sourced from local purveyors." The Greenbriar Inn, 8735 North Foothills Highway in Boulder, not only has one of the best wine lists around, but the restaurant also cultivates over 7,000 square feet of its own crops for the menu.
