The Digs: Bistro One occupies a small space along an enclave of hipness on a section of South Broadway that has recently become really awesome. The decor is modern and classy, and while the room rides a thin line between chic and sterile, there's a jovial murmur at Bistro One when it's busy -- and we appreciate that. Parking is available in a nearby lot, although construction is currently creating a bit of an obstacle in making your way toward the door.

The Verdict: Bistro One has arguably one of the best happy hours in town. The food is incredible, the drinks are delectable, the service is fantastic and it's CHEAP. If you're looking to wet your whistle with a delicious liquid, try the Fleur de Lis cocktail, a sweet- tart infusion of St. Germain, ruby red grapefruit and vodka. The Peach Passion was tasty as well, but needed just a little more pizazz. The asparagus fritters with roasted red pepper sauce ($4) are outstanding, not to mention a surprisingly perfect bar food. Ditto the ham and cheese sandwich ($5), which made us very happy. And the Haystack Mountain goat cheese puff pastries ($3), with a delicate, warm center oozing melted goat cheese and housemade fruit compote, literally blew our minds. Our bartender was cordial and noninvasive, which just contributed to a stellar time.

Overall Grade: A
