Capitol Hill and LoHi face off in the elite eight of our Street 16 tourney
The choice was easy for many Cafe Society readers last week when they voted for Capitol Hill to beat out the Bluebird district in the first round of the Street 16 tournament. Now Cap Hill goes up against burgeoning LoHi in this elite eight match-up. Industry folks, eaters and supporters: Now's the time to vote for your favorite 'hood.
What to consider if you want to vote for Cap Hill:
Benny's and Govnr's Park are the longtime anchors of Seventh Avenue, but over the past decade they've been joined by a host of sleek, stylish neighbors, including the revamped Racines, Lala's and three cuisine-hopping restaurants of star chef Frank Bonanno: Mizuna, Bones and Luca d'Italia. A block away, the parallel strip of Sixth Avenue has a parallel stretch of equally enticing eateries, from Table 6, Fruition and Barolo Grill to more casual spots, including Lime XS and Pho on 6th.
Here's a reminder on why eating in LoHi is such a good time:
Just a few years ago, there was little reason to venture into Lower Highland unless you were after Mexican fare at Patzcuaro or a canoli from Lechuga's, Denver mainstays that reflect different eras. But soon after Lola took up residence on the corner of 16th and Boulder and the neighborhood adopted the LoHi nickname, the area exploded with eateries: Duo, Z Cuisine, Masterpiece Deli, the Wooden Spoon Bakery, Highland Tap & Burger, Root Down, Linger, the Ale House at Amato's and Williams & Graham among them. And there's no end in sight: Pastry pro Yasmin Lozada-Hissom will soon open a dessert spot on West 32nd Avenue, and Central Bistro and Bar will slide in next to the Ale House.
