Catlin's now open for three square meals, three days a week
If you give a hungry customer a happy hour...
First came the patio, then the liquor license and now Catlin's Café, at 4379 East Mississippi, is open for dinner from 4 to 9 pm on Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Owner Eric Abney says he decided to expand his hours into dinner because of customer demand. Once the patio opened for happy hour, people started complimenting the vibe and asking him to stay open. "Why not go for broke?" he wondered. So he put catering director Joni Thompson in charge of the evening meal because she has a year's worth of experience at Red Lobster.
They'll offer pretty much the same menu with the addition of chicken and beef fajitas, a NY strip and sirloin and a variety of starters, including jalapeño poppers.
Last weekend was the dinner debut. "It was a soft open for us," Abney told me. Mostly, it was just regulars who'd seen the fliers in the window. Still, they doubled their business on each successive night. "It's going to take some time for people to realize that the lights are still on," he mused.
