Q: Can you tell me where the best German food is in the Denver area?
A: This is an easy one, because there are only a few local restaurants that bill themselves as German. The best is Café Berlin (2005 East 17th Avenue, 303-377-5896), a cozy space that serves excellent versions of German classics the potato pancakes are out of this world. Golden Europe (6621 Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada, 303-425-1246) is much more casual and offers a heart-stopping array of fried foods from Eastern Europe. And while the menu at Chinook Tavern (265 Detroit Street, 303-394-0044) covers all of Europe, the handful of German entrees includes a sumptuous sauerbraten.
