Put a little sprinkle in your step this Saturday, May 23, when D Bar Desserts, the magnificent bakery, sugar shack and savory foods shop at 1475 East 17th Avenue, celebrates its first anniversary with free cupcakes -- just one of the attention-grabbers at the food-porn patisserie that chef (and Food Network Challenge host) Keegan Gerhard and his wife and pastry chef, Lisa Bailey, opened last year. Here's the deal: Come in anytime between 11 a.m. and midnight, order a masturbaked cupcake and get a chocolate- or vanilla-cubed cupcake in return.
And then make plans to return on Sunday, June 28, when Gerhard and Bailey roll out their first brunch menu, which will include a whole roster of savory dishes, including a waffle sandwich. "Think of it as a po' boy, but made instead with a Belgian-style waffle topped with soppresetta, bresaola, capicola, different cheeses and candied jalapenos," Gerhard explains. That, and a cupcake, sounds like a model meal.
