Denver Restaurant Week, cheese classes on this week's culinary calendar

Denver Restaurant Week began this past Saturday (prompting some words of wisdom from Matt Selby, chef of Vesta Dipping Grill and Steuben's) and continues through Friday, March 9. Participating restaurants are offering prix-fixe meals for $52.80 per couple or $26.40 per individual. Visit the website for menus and details.

Monday, February 27: Frasca Food and Wine, 1738 Pearl Street in Boulder, hosts its weekly Monday Night Wine Dinner. Admission is $50 and up, and reservations are required; call 303-442-6966 or visit their website.

Tuesday, February 28:

Great Divide Brewing, 2201 Arapahoe Street, hosts its monthly beer and cheese pairing tonight, which takes place every last Tuesday of the month. $24 per person includes tax & gratuity. RSVP required. Email info@greatdivide.com or call 303-296-9460 to check availability.

IHOP celebrates National Pancake Day by offering free flapjacks all day today. In return, they're asking for voluntary donations to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children. Participating locations include 7017 South Clinton Street in Greenwood Village, 1595 South Colorado Boulevard and 3730 Quebec Street in Denver. Visit their website for more details.

Wednesday, February 29:

Boulder Wine Merchant, 2690 Broadway Street in Boulder, presents the Wines of Austria. Join in-house sommelier, Drew Duggan as he opens four Austrian wines. Sip, swill and learn free of charge. All participants will receive a 15 percent discount on wine to go. 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Thursday, March 1:

Cheese Basics at Cured, 1825 Pearl Street in Boulder. The folks at Cured continue their educational series by covering the history and classifications of cheese; complete with tastings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is $35 per person (which includes a 10 percent discount on any purchase) and reservations are required. Jax Fish House kicks off their 14th annual Oyster Month with the release of Emersum Oyster Stout, brewed by Odell Brewing. The brewery, located at 800 East Lincoln Avenue in Fort Collins, will host a release party from 2 to 6 p.m. The beer will be on tap at all three Jax Fish House locations; 1539 17th Street (303-292-5767), 928 Pearl Street in Boulder 303-444-1811) and 123 North College Avenue in Fort Collins (970-682-2275). Friday, March 2:

The Great Harvest Bread Co., 5910 South University Boulevard in Greenwood Village, is having a one year anniversary celebration in honor of their new owners, who took over the spot last February. Patrons are invited to enjoy family activities from 3 to 4 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 3. In addition, Great Harvest will be offering a free loaf of bread with any purchase both days.
